My two kids, 11 and 13, first tried surfing in Kauai a years ago without success. To all of our surprise, DJ had them surfing on the first wave. It was so exciting and I was jealous that I didn’t also try it! DJ was super flexible and even warned of a swell. Because we had flexibility, we moved our lesson to another day. Would 100% take lessons with him again.

My daughter and I signed up for one surf lesson with DJ. We had such a great time, we signed up for another a few days later. DJ is kind and patient and a great teacher. I highly recommend reaching to him for surf lessons.

It was a lot of fun surfing with DJ. I had a private lesson, DJ taught me quite a few skills, tailored the lesson to my experience, picked the waves that fit my ability and instructed me how to catch those waves. With DJ’s help, I was able to catch a lot of waves in a 1.5 hour lesson. Highly recommend if you are want to do surfing lessons in Maui.

Surfing with DJ was the best! I am a total beginner and he was patient and encouraging. It was one of the highlights of my trip and I would definitely recommend taking a lesson with DJ to others. Next time, I want to bring my kiddos for a lesson too. Thanks DJ!

My two sons have gone surfing with DJ multiple times, and have always enjoyed themselves.
I’m very impressed and comforted by his confidence with getting the kids in the water and his ease in working with them.
DJ always has a smile on his face showing how much he enjoys what he does, and you can tell he is an experienced surfer in the way he teaches. In no time at all, my two boys were up and surfing!
I highly recommend Maui Life Surf Adventures. You won’t be disappointed and will absolutely have a wonderful time in the water surfing with an amazing surf instructor!

We had such a good time taking surf lessons with DJ. He was professional, fun, and patient with my husband and two teens who were new to surfing. After a short lesson on the beach, they were ready to try out the waves, and to my surprise they all got up really quickly. DJ stayed near them and gently guided everyone to the waves giving them a slight push to get them going. They all had a great time and all said it was the highlight of our trip. DJ is an island local and even gave us some great suggestions for dining and shopping. He's a great guy and we definitely recommend taking surf lessons with him! Mahalo, DJ!

I have 3 boys all under the age of 13 that had the best experience surfing for the first time and it’s undoubtedly attributed to DJ. He made the experience fun and safe….if only we had more time we do it again

DJ was awesome!!! My family was in Maui over my son’s 10th birthday and DJ was recommended to us from our resort concierge for 1st time semi- private lessons. Signing up for lessons and communication with him was so easy. On the day of lessons, the waves were huge, but DJ showed up enthusiastically, taught my husband and son techniques on the beach, and got them in the water pretty quickly. DJ worked so hard, helping tow my son into the ocean and giving a little push off at just the right timing of the waves, so my son was super successful riding the waves back to the beach every time! The location was great too, as there weren’t a ton of other surfers in the water to navigate around. I highly recommend booking surfing lessons with DJ. He made my son’s birthday an incredible day he will never forget!

DJ was the perfect surf instructor for our group of 6 - we had 5 teenage boys plus my husband. DJ taught them safety, how to surf and made sure that everyone had fun and was successful. We did a ton of adventures during our time in Maui and surfing with DJ was definitely one of the favorites. If we hadn’t had other activities planned and paid for, everyone would have spent more time surfing. Definitely allow for at least one extra day with DJ if time allows! Not only was he a terrific instructor, but I also appreciated his professionalism and communication. With so many things planned and so many kids, his well timed communications were incredibly helpful!!

"While in Maui during Spring Break 2020 it was also our daughter's 8th Birthday (and Covid time.) Her greatest bday wish was to have a surf lesson and since she isn't a strong ocean swimmer and had no surf experience we were a little nervous. Our property manager put us in touch with DJ and on short notice he was able to do a lesson for her. He was on time, willing to wear a mask, very easygoing and gave her a little talk and demo on the beach before they hit the waves. She caught and rode her first wave almost immediatel! DJ laid on his board alongside holding her board as she got started and caught her balance. In a very short time she rode wave after wave with a little help and encouragement. A birthday wish come true!"
